Just imagine heading into Yankee Stadium and who cares who they are playing against. You are a fan and proud to be one, so you show your pride by wearing a New Era Yankee baseball cap and then you see there are many fans doing the same thing. Can you imagine the different types of revenue stream generated from those hats? Probably not, you just love your team. The Intangible item of the New York Yankees logo is in a platform known as Intellectual Property. The IP plays a key role in revenue in the world of sports. The legally protected IP stimulates growth in sports history. Lets take the New York Yankees New Era baseball cap and break it down. New Era buy media rights from the New York Yankees logo and in return receive in-stadium signage, branding, and exposure. MLB also receives a profit from the media rights sales. This type of platform can also receive its profits from merchandise sales. So the New York Yankees receive revenue the MLB receives revenue and so does the media rights holder meaning the companies of organizations who are making and distributing the logo in their products (by the way lots of jobs involved). So wince the 1950s till now the heart to sports revenue is in intellectual property.
